Hi Robin,

Are you looking to rehome the tumbler? Is it male or female?

I am looking after a pair of tumblers for a friend who is unwell. They are free flying and return to their quarters. One was downed by a sparrowhawk and I thought it was a goner but it later returned but with a bad limp. The same bird was later caught in a rat trap and lost a deal of blood before I rescued it but although it was caught by its leg it now walks perfectly OK. However it no longer flies. Can anyone out their tell me of anyone in the Gainsborough area of Lincs who specializes in pigeons?

Heathher, is the woodie still in the chimney or have you got him out? If he is out he will need rehydrating before release. If you can, warm him on something like a hot water botthle wrapped in towels for about half an hour, then mix 1/2 pint warm water with 1/2 tablespoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt., dip hi beak in this to persuade him to drink. A couple of hours after he has started drinking you can offer him some food.

If there is a pigeon friendly rescue centre near you perhaps they could take him to stabilise him for release!

If the pigeon is still stuck, a chimene sweep might be able to help.

I have a 6 week old wood pigeon that i have raised from an egg. He is not imprinted but is reasonably tame although getting less so as he approaches weaning. I know I can't release him straight back to the wild, I would like to find him a home with other wood pigeons, so if anyone has an aviary and could take him please let me know. He might be a she, i really can't tell!

Hi Cynthia i am in Plymouth Devon i would be happy to pay towards the cost of travel. If i am too far away i understand. My partner and i regularly catch injured pigeons we see in our town centre many with string injuries to their feet. We are very fortunate to have found a vet who assists us with the work we do as of yet Jane has never failed to (as she puts it ) fix any pigeon we have taken to her. I have been able to release every bird once fit and well. The only cost to us is for the medication or operation if needed. I see it as a hobby now and it is truly rewarding to see the birds go free of pain.

Tracy, where are you?

Hi Cynthia i can't seem to email you! I have rescued many injured pigeons in my local area and have found an amazing vet who helps me at a small cost to myself. I am quite a distance from Newcastle but more than happy to provide Purdy with a loving home if anyone would be kind enough or able to get her to me!
